From 15 November 2026, the airport train needs extra changes.
Until 14 November 2026, South Coast Line trains stop at Wolli Creek, the simple change for the airport. From 15 November 2026 they run into Central instead of Bondi Junction and no longer stop at Wolli Creek, so getting to the terminals by train means changing at Sutherland or Hurstville and again at Wolli Creek, or riding into Central and back out on the Airport Line (ABC News, NSW Government).
The Illawarra Mercury reports Wollongong to the domestic terminal at about 1 hr 42 min in the morning peak with changes at Sutherland and Wolli Creek, or about 1 hr 56 min via Central, compared with 82 to 85 minutes under the current timetable. South of Kiama the line is a diesel shuttle, and there is no train at all south of Bomaderry. Under the new timetable, off-peak and weekend services between Wollongong and Sydney become more frequent, which helps if you are travelling light.
By car, Wollongong to Sydney Airport takes about 1 hr 10 min outside peak, at a fixed $295. With luggage, children or an early flight, door-to-door is the simpler trip. Check your own train times on the Trip Planner.
WSI or Sydney Airport: which is closer from your town?
